Whoops! i let this go a little too long between posts.
I've even been lacking on commenting too -- that's what happens when i have all my blogs that i read religiously streamed to goggle reader. is there a way to comment through there that i'm missing?
Anyway - I'm off to florida on Sunday. for a mini vacation! Whee! I had lots of vacation days that I needed to use & usually I take days off here & there. For some reason, this year I didn't really do that. So it's all been adding up. The first half of the work year was literally INSANE.
The last half has been chill. But all good! i'm actually missing a pretty big proposal that they're doing this coming week. My boss claims it'll be crazy, but she always says that. and i know it'll be simpler than expected.
My first holiday was Barcelona!
This is florida to see the parents & flying down with my younger sister & her little one, who unfortunately is sick right now =( hopefully she'll feel better ASAP! like this morning!!!! She's a cutie though!
then next holiday is actually the week between christmas and new year's. My older sister & her 2 kids fly out from California, for the week, so it makes logical sense to just take all week off and stay at my parents' house. She's already been shipping Christmas presents to me!
Speaking of Christmas, I'm a big fan of Little Miss Fortune from the Glamour blogs (oh if i could work for them, I would!). she's given a many of us great advice on money and so forth. It's been quite genius. I'm pretty obsessed, actually fiancé would say I'm OCD about it. I can't say i disagree. There's at least one day a week, that i'm going over the bills (even though I have a spread sheet of our regular bills) and making sure we have enough money in our joint to pay for the month. and we always break even, I'm still ocd about it!
Back to the point - she made a post one day about saving for the holidays! I've always said I'm gonna do that and yet when Christmas shopping comes around, I STRESS about it. No joke! I'm sort of a scrooge. Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my family. I don't really like decorating - though I love seeing all the lights. i like that we have lots of meals & stuff. the only cookie i love is the chocolate chip ones, and i get those all year round, sorta. My mom makes them best, seriously! I had a mini christmas tree last year, but we put it outside, and it died! (it was a "live christmas tree") I told fiancé no tree this year. Besides it's not as if anyone comes over to our place for the holidays! Younger sister and mom take care of those meals. I love all the cooking. Gift wrapping, I'm not too keen on, but i like finding the right gift for everyone.
Instead of stressing over money this year, i've finally set up a savings account through ING Direct which i've said forever that i was gonna set up. But hadn't gotten to the point. I can be somewhat of a procrastinator. So i linked it to my checking account. it withdraws money out every friday into my christmas fund.
Whee! that's the easiest thing I've ever done! i know i could have it done to my savings account, but ing direct is great cuz i can set up multiple funds. So i transferred all my emergency fund (which i've had for a long time sitting in my savings) but it's so easy to access, that sometimes i do touch the money. Now that i have 2 funds. A Christmas Fund, and a emergency fund! and it's great seeing the money build up. So thanks Little Miss Fortune. You gave me a swift kick in the butt!
I'm gonna set up a Wedding/Honeymoon Fund & a "treat" fund. if i see something that i want - well, ok, so i have a mini wish list going on. Fiancé and i both have decided that it's annoying that we spend 15 - 20 bucks several times a year on sunglasses, that don't last. We've come to the conclusion that it might be more logical to buy a pair of glasses that are gonna last longer, and not fall apart on us (of course have a 1 year warranty on them) . so, we're gonna save up for that. put money away here & there. I don't like spending a lot of $ on clothes, and nor do i! my mom taught me well. Most of the stuff in my closet, I've bought on sale. I never pay full price for anything, ever.
Then there's the wedding location. I actually found out the EXACT location of the photograph! and have been getting rates on it. I want it there so badly. But i have 2 people working against me on this - MOM, and sister. *Glares at them* so I'm going to look at a couple of other locations while down in Florida. Don't say I'm close minded, but i can be so damn stubborn. I see something i want, i MAY get it. Sometimes i give in and be like, ugh i give up.
But i do have 2 locations that we're looking at on Monday in Fort Lauderdale. Both seem like a very viable thing, but the food. oh that kills me. it's all the same. Bleh. if i had my way, we'd go greek for the wedding. and we'd do pizza for the rehersal dinner. No lie. that's something we both would love!
Ok LOTS to do today and it's gonna fly by quickly!
if you live in one of those places where you do the day lights savings, don't forget to turn your clocks back!
and have a spooktacular halloween!

First Things First
I just got a blogger award from Anais, over at Through Green Eyes! Just wanted to thank her for passing on an award to me. I know I don't have a huge following whatsoever, I'm a big commenter though! Both Anais and Amber, from Girl With the Red Hair, are extremely loyal commenters, so much love to both of them! and my family - they're just lurkers though (my mom will send me an email occasionally commenting on my postings, while my dad will just say something to me).
Next First things First! Location. Do you know how difficult it is to find a location? Granted I'm only a week and a half into the search, but i know I need to really find one soon since the date I want is 10/10/10, but i do have a second back up date which is 10/17/10 -- either of which would totally be fine with me. 10/10 is just easy to remember, 10/17 would just fall on being my favorite number.
Side note: 17 has been my favorite number for the longest time. But the weirdest thing is the number 17 keeps popping up EVERYwhere! I just see a bunch of numbers and always manage to configure the numbers to make the number 17. it's making me think that I should pick that date. We'll see though, it'd be sweeter if it was on 10/10 cuz that's the day he proposed. Who knows? I'm going with the flow.
When I look at hotels, I'm like - everything just seems the same over and over again. Then i get into the whole beach wedding kind of thing, which is what i've always wanted since my older sister got married in the bahamas. it was pretty sweet. but the stuff i'm seeing is so kitschy, and cheesy, I just can't imagine me and fiancé (do you have any idea how weird it is to type that!) getting married under those cheesy things?!
Then I'm also seeing these great ideas -- where people rent beach houses that are right on the beach and throw a party there. I'm thinking this could really work. His parents and sister and niece could stay at the house (affordable for them), so could my sisters if they wanted to. it'd be a big house. But then i think, we have to rent tables & chairs for 75 people (our running list is now at 93, but i'm not expecting everyone to come). I think it could really add up to being the same as a hotel.
and I'm back at Square 1!
I absolutely love this picture, i actually got the information from the photographer, heather ahrens photography. and found out where it was, but no further details? Here's the photo:
That's exactly the kind of feel i want for our wedding. *sighs* I did email her back to see if she could put me in contact with the couple, provided the couple says yes. Normally I'm the kind of person that hesitates, but this is something that I have a clear picture in my mind of what i want, and If i can get it, why not?!
I know I want it to be somewhere in Florida because I want this to feel like a retreat and a big ol' party all rolled in one! who doesn't want that?! Oh and I'm gonna use Projectwedding.com for my planning. that is an awesome website to date!

Just doing it a little backwards
After the half marathon, I had made plans with one of my girlfriends to just go do some girly things. We had that whole Aveda coupon to try stuff at Aveda from Glamour! love my glamour!
so we went -- got to taste the tea! Delicious! i couldn't justify spending $14 bucks on it! hand massage, head and shoulder massage, a sense journey & tried some different lipsticks. then i went with her to DSW cuz she needed new shoes for a dress she had. she ended up picking a couple pairs. I think i want one of them!!!!! they were both incredibly sexy!
Then she dropped me off at home, and i walk in, and go, oh you already had dinner.
He's like no, i made dinner.
he thought he'd make dinner to celebrate my second half marathon. Ok sure.
Get this -- we've been together nearly 4 years, he's never once made dinner. He's made breakfast, well, we make breakfast together occassionally. But dinner, never!
He marinated salmon (for me) and chicken for me, steamed some broccoli and did some rice pilaf. and had some wine. Yummy -- he cooked the salmon so perfectly! it was seriously delicious! Not even kidding.
We were just chatting, next thing i knew, he proposed. Simple and Sweet! of course I said yes.
He got me the ring i had picked out. So gorgeous!
it is so gorgeous. I remember the first time i saw it, we were both blown away by the design. i'd seen it online, but when we saw it in the store, in person, it was insane!
basically it is a loose diamond. it can spin around in its setting. I love it! here's the side view.
so doing it backwards is by buying our place together first. I can't wait to start planning. However it'll be another year before we get married. hoping for 10/10/10! depends on the site. it'll be a destination wedding for sure! (No kids, except maybe a dog.)
*****
Edit
I meant no kids as in we're not gonna have kids, but maybe have a dog in our family. It's just gonna be him and me!
of course the kiddes in the family are gonna be in the wedding!

it's done!
i was seriously anxious on Friday.
So for dinner I would've had made pizza but we had thirsty dog pizza on thursday.
so i picked up some veggies from the salad bar & came home and made pasta with sauteed veggies.
I was in bed by 10:30...and my alarm was set to go off at 5:45. I was up and at 'em and ready to go at 6:30. I brought my breakfast cookie with me, had everything packed in a bag.
I drove us to Baltimore while he was still sleeping. the drive was so easy until we got off on the exit, then that took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to park. Luckily I didn't have to be ready to run until 9:45. there were full marathoners that were getting out of the car on the exit ramp to run to the starting point! it was that crazy!
we were literally driving around in circles. it was insane trying to find parking.
When we finally did - i really had to pee. It was to the point where it hurt so bad. i finally got a port a potty - so DISGUSTING! then we walked to the spot where my starting point was. It was quite a walk away. When we got there, lots of marathoners were passing by.. that was mile 7.....then they came around again at mile 10. next time we'd merge with them on mile 3 - mile 13 for them.
While waiting for everything to start, we ran into our neighbors-- the wife was running too! so hey, it was awesome to have someone to start the race with. there had to be at least 20 thousand people here.
so we started! it was just mobs of people. so freakin' crazy. there was never a point where i had plenty of room to run, it was just always someone within a foot of you. it was insanely packed.
Mile 3 -- I had to pee so bad! i was hoping i'd sweat it off. but that wasn't happening. so i stopped. and i think it was about a 7 to 8 minute wait. there were so many people in line for 1 portapotty. It was tough for me to see all those people running right by. But what are you gonna do about it!
after that was done, i just kept running. There were so many hills! so many hills! it was such a challenge! it was pretty much up hill from mile 4 to 10.5. i didn't walk up a single one! i just kept going and going!
There were a couple of water stops that i had to pour my own water?! What the hey?! i was like huh? it was nothing like my first half -- they'd have garbage buckets where they'd be constantly filling the cups, and never ever a shortage! i'd have to scramble to find water - do not like drinking gatorade.
it was drizzling most of the race. i had my sunglasses on at first, but then it impeded most of my vision, so I took them off and stuck them in my waist pack. i think around mile 9 is when it started raining more steadily! there were points where i was barely able to get a good feel of the ground! i was so worried i would start slipping, but i pushed through it. the rain eventually subsided.
by mile 12 -- we hit the busiest part - i swear i was running the fastest i've ever run! i was passing people. the crowd was cheering everyone on. it was great, the finish line was kind of tricky, you'd think you were there, then you had to keep running for another .2 miles and it was like AGH. and i finished.
I did 2:19 -- if i took off that stop i basically did hit my goal of running under 2:15. i just had so many things working against me. But you know what i'm gonna work at speed intervals, and improve at my distance running!
the end was tough cuz he couldn't even get to the finish line. he felt like people were so RUDE there! he got so agitated and just walked away and waited for me at the stadium. they would corral all the runners in to one spot. and it was tough cuz you couldn't tell where you were walking. the food selection was kinda meh. plain bagels which kinda sucked. i had a banana and some water.
I wish they had chocolate milk!
Only got 1 blister. Whee! i was feeling really good at the end.
we were home in less than an hour and chilled out. i don't do ice baths, i don't feel like it would make a difference with me. i actually felt pretty good! i stretched, just let my legs relax.
i hit the gym this morning...and tried running, but my left calf was really bothering me. so i'll give it til wednesday, otherwise i feel just fine. not immobile at all!
Will I do the baltimore half marathon again, probably not.
I figure the next race will be the cherry blossom 10k. then i'll figure the next couple half marathons out!
Stay tuned for more news tomorrow!

Anxiety~
I don't think i felt this much anxiety last time I did my first race!
Maybe it's because i had someone to run with!
I went and picked up my race packet yesterday evening. We had to drive out to columbia anyway, so figured we'd make a stop in baltimore that way I wouldn't have to go today.
it didn't take that long. Except i was wishing my last name was his name already, the lines for my letter H was long! and his had nearly no line at all!
Once i got my packet, i had to go inside and pick up my race tag then pick up the t-shirt (which is an under armour shirt!) the shirt is actually something I'd totally wear (just not on race day)
I'm wearing my green tank top with pants. I'd wear my skorts, but last time i did long distance running, the shorts kept riding up. Not something I want to deal with.
and we got TONS of discounts for future half marathon races that happen across the country (mostly east coast though). and a pair of gloves, which I'm not keeping, and I think some sort of arm band? but it's NEON green. and got geico plastered all over it. So the t-shirt is the only thing that's worth keeping!
I don't like junk. I throw stuff away immediately. I don't like expos that much cuz the give aways is JUNK. However if it's a food sample -- I'll snatch it up. As long as it's not sugar free crap. sugar free stuff is CRAP. (Mom I hope you get this). I hate sugar free stuff, I think it's crap.
If i want sugar, I'm eating the real thing. I've been using honey as a sweetener. in my oatmeal, I don't even need to add any sugar. it's amazing! I used to have to load it with brown sugar, now i don't need it. so awesome.
anyway back to the race -- I'm nervous. I feel like anything that can go wrong will go wrong! thank god my half doesn't start til 9:45 - but the whole set up just seems chaotic! I'm figuring, I won't have water in my waist pak, but I'll keep my gus and phone in there so i have something on me and don't have to spend an extra 20 bucks on one of those spi belts. take at least 3 water bottles with me to drink beforehand.and of course i'll be making a version of the breakfast cookie. I cannot wait to eat that.
I'm ready for this race to be over with! Ha!
since we had pizza last night, I have to figure out something else to eat for tonight, I'm figuring pasta. though i'm actually sick of pasta, we've had it a couple times this week already! but that's something that's easy to make and deal with. and i can load it with veggies.
The only reason why we had pizza last night was cuz after picking up the race packet in baltimore, we went to Columbia to meet with boyfriend's insurance guy. I was on his case about possibly switching insurance companies to cover our cars.
I've never met anyone who could talk as much as him! I mean we both were expecting to be there for a half hour or 45 minutes. we were there for an hour and half! the guy was a TALKER, and 75% wasn't even about our insurance, it was stories of other people. But he was able to get our monthly cost down by almost $70 bucks without compromising on coverage - that's for auto, condo and life.
I hope i never have to go back there again because he just talked so damn much, and fast too. I had to tell him to slow down. but i'm pretty sure i got at least 80% of what he said. so that the beer and the pizza were well deserved.
ok... t minus 25 hours and counting.

Gaining Momentum
I have no idea what's so different this time around for my running. I definitely feel a lot slower this time around.
and it's funny cuz i don't dread the long runs as much as i did the first time around.
When I did my 10 miler on saturday -- i felt like I was flying! only to come to find out i was pretty much still averaging about 10 minute per mile! what the ???
I'm even beginning to think my first race back in April wasn't as good as i expected. I think i did 2:20. but they didn't time the race since it was so hot that morning.
My personal goal for this saturday is to try to hit 2:15. We'll see.
I ran 5 miles yesterday, but my entire left side was cramping up the entire time. I still ran it in 50 minutes.
However, the baltimore race has a LOT of hills, and hills slow me down, they slow a lot of people down. So i'm not quite sure how that's going to go. I think if i'm around more people, i push myself harder. I just want to finish the race. Even if it means that I have to slog it. I'm gonna slog it! I'm not gonna walk it!
Once the race is done, I'm gonna hunker down and figure out speed training. I know it's gonna be resorting to treadmill running, so I'm gonna need to read up on how I might be able to gain some more speed.
Ideally I'd like to have a couple of races set up for the spring - I'd LOVE to do the fitness half marathon in Central Park - NYC again. If there's a group of ladies that wants to do this, I would love to run with a group of women this time around! we could do t-shirts (they'd have to be sleeveless - i can't work out with sleeves for some reason!)
and i think i also would like to do the cherry blossom run that happens in DC as well. I'm holding K to that one! =)
This morning - i hit the gym and did upper body work out. and abs. I didn't break that much of a sweat, but i knew i was working. the abs-- i was doing a whole series. I've never been a fan of the exercise ball, but this time i read the instructions in my weight training book, and did it the way it said to. WHOOOOO. that burned!!! i've been doing it wrong this entire time. Go figure!!!!!!
I'll probably hit the treadmill tomorrow morning since I have a girl friend date tomorrow night to see the movie Fame! cannot wait!
and it's funny cuz i don't dread the long runs as much as i did the first time around.
We'll see.

T-minus 9 days!
i'm coming up 9 days (today doesn't count, i already worked out!) until my next half marathon.
i really want the weather to be halfway decent.
My biggest fear about running any half marathon is having to run in FREEZING cold weather, or rainy weather. i just don't want to do that.
I will say I've gotten caught in rain before. And the most unpleasant thing about it is -- the shoes! the shoes get all slushy and it's just horrible to run in. (it was one of those impromptu rainshowers, and it POURED!)
I'll be ok with a little drizzle. but hey, give me 50 degrees weather, and i'll be fine.
I did 8.25 miles last sunday (not saturday... i was so sore from helping my sister tile her kitchen). so i just put it off til sunday.
The breakfast cookie oatmeal bowl has been excellent for pre runs! it was about mile 7 when I was starting to falter in my energy levels, so i used one of my clif shots! i just need to remember to get 1 more banana on friday night, so i can make it and have it ready for my saturday morning 10 mile run!
i'm debating whether i should have my ipod with me or not. i've been running on and off with out it. During the week when i'm doing 3, 4, 5 mile runs, i don't usually have it with me. on my 8.25 mile run, i did have it with me. It keeps me going. not that i pay that much attention to it.
I've definitely been paying way more attention to how i'm running. so i think my stride's been much better.
I know i need new shoes! but i'm very cautious about switching shoes, especially since I love these shoes, but the heel on the inside is starting to wear *NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!* I've never done that to a pair of sneakers for as long as I've been a serious gym goer (since 2005). one pair i wore out the soles, my trainer at the time was like, girl you need new shoes, i was slipping and sliding all over the place trying to do push ups. Haha... since that time i've been better about buying sneakers. But these pairs, my first pair of nike shox. I really do like them. They're simple, not complicated. I don't need the fancy schmancy shoes.
i'm mentally preparing for Saturday's run for the next couple days. =)
and provided the weather cooperates...we'll be mountain biking on sunday! whooo hoo! i'm looking forward to that. hopefully this time we can snap pictures, cuz we both got updates on our phones. I've finally stepped foot in the blackberry world (i've always just had a phone that i only used for texting).
Granted we would have gone with an Iphone. But we like Verizon service, (despite all the hassling with verizon about our internet!) the phone service has been good, the store on the other hand is a NIGHTMARE.
But when we went on tuesday night, it was the easiest visit EVER! I'm not kidding, I even thanked the sales guy for making this a great headache free visit and for not causing me angst. so we upgraded both our phones to the newest blackberry tour -- we figure this was the MOST recently released blackberry, it's gonna be good for the next 2 years. we are both the kind of people to use something until it breaks. so i've got to mess around with it.
and it takes great pictures. so i'm sure pictures will be snapped!
