I have no idea what's so different this time around for my running. I definitely feel a lot slower this time around.
and it's funny cuz i don't dread the long runs as much as i did the first time around.
When I did my 10 miler on saturday -- i felt like I was flying! only to come to find out i was pretty much still averaging about 10 minute per mile! what the ???
I'm even beginning to think my first race back in April wasn't as good as i expected. I think i did 2:20. but they didn't time the race since it was so hot that morning.
My personal goal for this saturday is to try to hit 2:15. We'll see.
I ran 5 miles yesterday, but my entire left side was cramping up the entire time. I still ran it in 50 minutes.
However, the baltimore race has a LOT of hills, and hills slow me down, they slow a lot of people down. So i'm not quite sure how that's going to go. I think if i'm around more people, i push myself harder. I just want to finish the race. Even if it means that I have to slog it. I'm gonna slog it! I'm not gonna walk it!
Once the race is done, I'm gonna hunker down and figure out speed training. I know it's gonna be resorting to treadmill running, so I'm gonna need to read up on how I might be able to gain some more speed.
Ideally I'd like to have a couple of races set up for the spring - I'd LOVE to do the fitness half marathon in Central Park - NYC again. If there's a group of ladies that wants to do this, I would love to run with a group of women this time around! we could do t-shirts (they'd have to be sleeveless - i can't work out with sleeves for some reason!)
and i think i also would like to do the cherry blossom run that happens in DC as well. I'm holding K to that one! =)
This morning - i hit the gym and did upper body work out. and abs. I didn't break that much of a sweat, but i knew i was working. the abs-- i was doing a whole series. I've never been a fan of the exercise ball, but this time i read the instructions in my weight training book, and did it the way it said to. WHOOOOO. that burned!!! i've been doing it wrong this entire time. Go figure!!!!!!
I'll probably hit the treadmill tomorrow morning since I have a girl friend date tomorrow night to see the movie Fame! cannot wait!

Do speed training - sprint intervals. I started doing speed once a week back in July and I've gotten MUCH faster. I've gone from averaging 10:30-11:00 min miles to running 9:00-9:30 min miles.
I do my speed training with a group and we've done lots of 400's, some 800's and a few times we did mile repeats. You can find some great speed workouts online though, too!
Good luck this weekend!!
If I could, I would run in all those half-marathons you mentioned! Although I think the Cherry Blossom one might definitely happen one day because I miss DC :)
I'll be running my first half next fall... and I think after that I'll hopefully do more... So who knows, maybe spring 2011? (lol that's so far off...)
I vote for the cherry blossom one...I love DC!!
